The Rector of UGM, Professor Ova Emilia, MD, inaugurated a student coworking space and entrepreneurship laboratory in the Faculty of Philosophy on Friday (August 18).
The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Dr. Siti Murtiningsih, and the Regional IV Central Java-Yogyakarta Executive Vice President of PT Pos Indonesia, Helly Siti Halimah, were present at the inauguration.
The rector hoped this laboratory would further cultivate the students’ entrepreneurial spirit and interest.
During a dialogue with representatives of Student Activity Units at the Faculty of Philosophy, the rector expressed her appreciation of the initiative, saying that it allows students to organize activities while channeling their interests and talents in sports and arts.
According to her, the coworking space aligns with UGM’s program to enhance student collaboration and synergy.
“We want to build interprofessional collaboration among students. Collaboration and synergy should be developed starting from education on campus; it cannot be limited to collaboration only after graduation and employment,” she said.
The spirit of collaboration among student units, the rector stated, would indirectly shape students’ character even after they graduate.
“I believe that facilities like this will strengthen students’ collaboration character. Once again, the existence of a coworking space gives birth to many quality works by Philosophy students,” she said.
Dean Siti Murtiningsih added that the space would be a place for students from different units to gather. She hoped that students would become more enthusiastic about carrying out extracurricular activities on campus.
“With this new space, we want students to be more enthusiastic and make maximum contributions to the faculty and UGM,” she explained.
Dean Siti Murtiningsih stated that the entrepreneurship laboratory, which covers an area of 7×9 square meters, aims to instill an entrepreneurial spirit among students to develop more creative business ideas and innovations.
“We hope it is not only to enjoy a cup of coffee and delicious food but also for where students can learn independently and develop an entrepreneurial spirit,” she said.
Helly Siti Halimah stated that PT. Pos Indonesia’s support for the Faculty of Philosophy’s entrepreneurship laboratory is a contribution from the state-owned company to strengthen education and teaching in higher education.
“Hopefully, this laboratory can be utilized effectively,” she hoped.
She said the entrepreneurship laboratory also offers postal services, delivery of goods, and digital payment and remittance services.
“In this laboratory, we also provide Pos Indonesia services for students and online business partners,” she said.
