The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is excited to announce the commencement of admissions for new students into the Professional Psychology Education Program for the odd semester of the academic year 2023/2024.
Dr. Rahmat Hidayat, the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, made the official announcement in alignment with the mandate of Law No. 23 of 2022 regarding Psychology Education and Services.
This is a renewal of professional psychology education that has been combined with a master’s education.
“Three levels of education will apply for the profession in this program: general psychologist, specialist psychologist, and sub-specialist psychologist,” he shared during an Instagram live session on Monday (Jan. 15).
The session covered insights into Professional Psychology Education, the registration process, and the curriculum for potential students.
For this initial intake, the UGM Faculty of Psychology allows its alumni to pursue this professional education. However, in subsequent semesters, the faculty will broaden the admission scope to alumni from other universities.
“God willing, in the next semesters, with our growing capabilities and capacity, we will be able to open up broader opportunities for alumni from other universities,” he expressed.
Meanwhile, Dr. Galang Lufityanto, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the faculty, clarified that the Professional Psychology Education Program differs from the Professional Psychology Master’s Program.
In the Professional Education Program, students won’t receive a master’s degree but a professional one. Furthermore, the study duration is condensed, spanning three semesters compared to the four-semester duration of the master’s professional program.
“In this professional program, there is no thesis because there is no master’s degree. There will be internship practices, then a competency test from HIMPSI. If they pass, they will be designated as psychologists,” he added.
Dr. Yuli Fajar Susetyo, the Head of the Professional Psychology Education Program, outlined that students will undergo a blend of in-person and virtual learning across various practical settings. These settings encompass healthcare, education, industry, and community.
“The program is not a part-time or weekend program; it is a full-time program because it is very dense. In the first semester, there will be a lot of practical activities. Then, in the second and third semesters, students will be immersed in the field,” he explained.
The admission process for new students in the program commenced on Jan. 15, 2024, and concludes on Jan. 26, 2024. Prospective students meeting the academic and administrative requisites will take the substance test on Feb. 2–3, 2024, with classes scheduled to commence on Feb. 26, 2024.
