Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) proudly welcomed 101 new professors in 2023, solidifying its position as the leading institution in professorial advancements throughout the year.
This significant addition elevates the total count of active professors at UGM to an impressive 465, a testament to the university’s unwavering commitment to delivering top-notch education.
UGM Director of Human Resources, Professor Suadi, said the appointment of qualified teaching staff to the esteemed professor position is envisioned to catalyze an enhancement in the overall education quality at UGM, aligning with the pursuit of sustainable development goals, particularly the elevation of the human development index.
“Education is the key to a nation’s development, demanding a continuous elevation in quality. We hope these new professors can contribute to the university and extend their benefits to society in the coming years,” he explained on Wednesday, December 13.
Breaking down the numbers, Professor Suadi revealed that the 101 new professors hail from 16 faculties at UGM. The Faculty of Engineering emerged as the largest contributor, boasting 24 new professors.
Following suit are the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health with 14 professors, the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences with eight each, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Animal Science with seven each, and the Faculty of Geography, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and the Faculty of Forestry with six each.
Next on the list is the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (4), the Faculty of Dentistry (3), the Faculty of Economics and Business (3), the Faculty of Biology (2), the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (1), the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (1), and the Vocational College (1).
This success is attributed to UGM’s efforts to expedite the promotion or appointment of lecturers. One of the actions taken is to improve the administrative process for credit score assessment and collaborative work among lecturers and non-teaching staff in departments, faculties, and the university.
This is accompanied by a map of their performance in education, research, and community service (tri-dharma), a flow chart of the credit score assessment, and workshops for preparing promotion proposal files.
The Directorate of Human Resources, in tandem with the Directorate of Information Technology, has actively worked on leveraging the human resources dashboard to map credit score achievements.
This innovative approach extracts tri-dharma data from UGM’s Simaster, facilitating systematic monitoring of credit score achievements for each lecturer and providing several priority programs for human resources.
Professor Suadi said the issuance of Regulation of the Minister of State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform No. 1 of 2023 concerning Functional Positions has also influenced the significant addition of new professors at UGM, encouraging lecturers to check their credit score achievements and apply for promotion.
