Obtaining a bachelor’s degree is an achievement that almost everyone dreams of. This includes Alfredo Dwiputra Ardiansyah, who recently graduated with a degree in Communication Science from the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol UGM) on Wednesday (May 22).
At the graduation ceremony for 1,422 undergraduate and diploma graduates held at Grha Sabha Pramana, he was named the fastest graduate, completing his bachelor’s degree in 3 years, two months, and 16 days. The average duration of study for undergraduate programs is four years and one month.
Edo, as he is commonly called, did not expect to be recognized as the fastest graduate. He focused on graduating quickly during his studies to become financially independent and not burden his parents.
“My goal at that time was to avoid paying tuition fees for the next semester by graduating before the next semester began,” he said.
His desire to finish his studies immediately drove him to work on his final project. He chose an undergrad thesis topic based on a case study from the business he was starting.
The title of his thesis was “Strategy for Creating a Rebranding Campaign at the Startup CarbonEthics.” Edo felt fortunate to be supervised by Masageng Widagdha Prasarana, whom he found very helpful and supportive during the completion of his final project.
In addition to receiving help with his final project, Edo acknowledged that the friendships with fellow students were one of the most important aspects of his university experience.
The relationships formed during his studies provided emotional support and valuable social networks for the future.
“I have many memories with friends, and I always believe in not getting caught up in unnecessary drama,” he recalled.
Regarding tips for graduating faster, Edo advises not to force oneself to graduate quickly but to enjoy every process.
“Enjoy every process and live in the moment, even when you are working on your thesis. That’s why the thesis topic should align with your interests so you can enjoy working on it. What’s the point of graduating quickly if you are not interested in the work?” he said.
After earning his bachelor’s degree, this Jakarta native plans to pursue his interest in working in business and marketing. Initially, his motivation during his studies was to become a journalist.
“But it turned out that after studying more deeply in Communication Science at UGM, I discovered my interest in marketing and business,” he said.
