The Master’s Program in Higher Education Management, UGM Graduate School, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Friday, Jun. 28, 2024, with the theme “Financing Education in Higher Education” to address the critical issue of rising higher education costs in Indonesia, which are hindering funding access for many students.
As is known, the cost of education in Indonesia is increasing and has become a hotly debated issue.
The FGD aims to provide an overview of the higher education financing structure and offer recommendations to stakeholders regarding the proper and accurate allocation of educational funds in accordance with the needs of higher education processes.
The hope is that higher education in Indonesia can produce graduates with excellent competencies while improving the quality of education.
Dr. R Wahyu Supartono, the Head of the Master’s Program in Higher Education Management, led the discussion.
The discussion is expected to yield current solutions for developing higher education financing systems, supporting the planning and evaluation of quality education, and ensuring that every student has equal opportunities to thrive.
The event featured speakers from various scientific fields at UGM, including Professor Supriyadi (UGM Vice-Rector for Human Resources and Finance), Professor Nizam (Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology, Ministry of Education and Culture for 2020-2023), Professor Siti Malkhamah (Dean of the UGM Graduate School), Professor Didi Achjari (Dean of FEB UGM), Professor Titi Savitri Prihatiningsih (FK-KMK UGM), and the Head of the Master’s Program in Higher Education Management, Dr. R Wahyu Supartono, as the discussion moderator.
The FGD participants, consisting of structural officials and lecturers from Universitas Gadjah Mada, actively contributed to the discussion.
This discussion aimed to achieve the best solutions regarding the issues discussed and meet the main objective of improving the financing structure of higher education.
