
Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Culture of Timor Leste, held a new student selection process in Dili, Timor Leste, on Thursday (Mar. 20).
This selection process follows up on the collaborative initiative established in November 2024.
Vice-Rector for Education and Learning, Professor Wening Udasmoro, stated that the purpose of holding UGM’s new student selection in Timor Leste is to help the best students from Timor Leste pursue education at UGM.
“We are trying to make the student admission mechanism more accessible. We all hope that through methods like this, we can open more opportunities for prospective students and lecturers from Timor Leste to continue their studies at UGM,” said Professor Udasmoro.
According to her, the new student selection in Timor Leste is part of UGM’s efforts to assist Timor Leste in enhancing its human resources and supporting priority programs in the country.
The second day of the test was even directly observed by UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia.
In addition to the selection process, the UGM delegation also conducted partnership meetings with Timor Leste, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Culture, and the Executive Director of the Human Capital Development Fund (HCDC).
In the meeting, both parties discussed the possibility of expanding cooperation and opening opportunities for lecturers from universities in Timor Leste to continue their studies at UGM.
“This partnership visit to Timor Leste also included the selection for several undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs for applicants from Timor Leste,” she added.
Professor Udasmoro said that Universitas Gadjah Mada is an inclusive university that is open to accepting international students, including those from Timor Leste.
She acknowledged the considerable interest of applicants wishing to continue their studies at UGM.
Meanwhile, Professor Gandes Retno Rahayu, Director of Education and Teaching, added that 195 participants took part in UGM’s new student selection in Timor Leste.
These included 9 participants in the applied undergraduate program, 53 in the undergraduate program, 1 in the professional program, 119 in the master’s program, and 13 in the doctoral program.
The selection in Timor Leste was held over two days, Mar. 19 and 20, 2025, at the Indonesian Cultural Center in Timor Leste. The written test, covering GMST and AcEPT, took place on Mar. 19, 2025, followed by interviews on Mar. 20, 2025.
