The Integrated Health Service Bureau of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Run and Walk event titled “June Oh June” on Friday (Jun. 13).
The activity, which started at 07:30, took its start and finish point at the south yard of UGM Central Office.
A spirit of togetherness was visible from early morning as participants enthusiastically arrived, some wearing UGM attributes with a spirit of pride.
The bright weather added to the liveliness of the event, which carried the spirit of healthy living within the campus environment.
The event was attended by hundreds of participants from among lecturers and staff within UGM.
Besides being a light exercise event, Run and Walk served as a means to strengthen relationships among the academic community in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Amidst work pressure and busy daily activities, such an event provided a refreshing break. Many participants were seen chatting familiarly while walking casually, creating a warm and fluid atmosphere of togetherness.
“This activity is organized as an effort to increase the physical activity of UGM academic community members, especially employees, to remain fit and healthy so they can support daily work productivity,” said Dita Margarini, as the organizing committee.
She added that such sports activities would be held regularly every month with variations in activity forms, such as zumba, line dance, and cycling, to remain attractive and suit participants’ interests.
According to Margarini, maintaining physical fitness is an important priority in the work environment to create healthy and productive human resources.
She hopes that in the future, more units at UGM will be actively involved and invite their colleagues to participate in this activity.
Run and Walk is not just a sports event, but also a moment to build a positive spirit amidst busy routines.
Hestining Kurniastuti from UGM’s Public Relations, News, and Protocol Office stated that the Run and Walk on Friday morning served as a refresher amidst the routine.
Walking with colleagues is beneficial for the body and strengthens togetherness, fostering a positive spirit that promotes a return to productivity.
According to Kurniastuti, activities like this strengthen social bonds among employees across units who might rarely meet in daily work routines.
“The relaxed outdoor atmosphere also provides a relaxing effect that cannot be obtained from regular office activities,” she said.
Enthusiasm was also seen from another participant, Ahmad Yuana Putra, from the Directorate of Student Affairs. He hopes that similar activities can be held more often, even involving students, so that all campus elements can feel the spirit of health.
According to Putra, a pleasant and intimate atmosphere like this can be an inspiration for other units to organize similar activities.
“UGM Run and Walk, the event was cool, fun, and exciting. It’s an activity that helps maintain the fitness of lecturers and staff, and serves as a forum for them to socialize and interact. There are many door prizes,” he expressed.
Through activities like this, UGM continues to promote a sustainable, healthy lifestyle, not only to support physical health but also the mental health of the entire academic community.
This commitment is part of the campus’s effort to create a healthy, harmonious, and productive work and learning ecosystem.
Joint physical activities are also part of a preventive approach to maintaining overall health.
With healthy bodies and fresh minds, the UGM academic community is expected to be able to make the best contribution to the tri-dharma.
