For the first time in 16 years, the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) in Indonesia was held at a university, with UGM becoming the first university in the country to host this event.
The education fair, which took place at Grha Sabha Pramana on Wednesday (Oct. 30), was a collaboration between UGM, EHEF, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
The event aimed to introduce European higher education institutions as part of efforts to improve the country’s human resources quality.
Director of Partnerships and Global Relations at UGM, Professor Puji Astuti, mentioned that more than 80 institutions participated in the fair, including 62 universities from 15 European countries.
The event was expected to attract more than 4,000 visitors attending the exhibition and seminar series.
“We hope it not only raises awareness of these institutions but also fosters information exchange with Indonesian universities, paving the way for research collaboration,” she said.
Professor Astuti further noted that this European higher education fair was a golden opportunity for UGM and other universities in Indonesia to learn more about educational collaborations and research partnerships.
She highlighted the availability of information regarding joint research with European universities.
“It opens up opportunities for collaboration on even bigger initiatives in the future,” she explained.
In addition to the exhibition, this year’s EHEF featured various seminars, including one titled “Opportunities in Green Engineering for Green Transition” and a presentation from the EU-Indonesia Cooperation Facility (EUICF), which mapped out green engineering university programs in EU member states.
There were also seminars on European Union-funded research opportunities and how to write successful doctoral scholarship proposals.
Afia Rifkiani from UGM’s Office of International Affairs stated that the event also featured a booth for IISMA, serving as a gateway for students to explore and consult about their target universities. Many IISMA partner universities were also participating in EHEF.
“EHEF is the perfect event for students to meet the universities they aspire to attend. There’s free consultation, so they can choose where they want to go,” she concluded.
