The UGM KKN-PPM student team assigned to Slungkep Village organized a tree-planting event, planting 701 trees in Slungkep Village, Kayen District. This activity was held to celebrate the 701st anniversary of Pati Regency, Central Java.
The “Aksi Slungkep Lestari” event is part of Slungkep Fest, a community service festival inspired by the spirit of independence, held from Aug. 1 to 19, 2024. The festival will culminate in a cultural stage performance, “Panggung Kabudayan.”
The UGM KKN team consists of Tiyo Ardianto (Philosophy), Anindia Putri Belia (Agronomy), Ariska Meilinda (Archaeology), Adinda Dwi H. (Geographic Information Systems), Trighoni Rorosuli (Survey Mapping), Maria Casandra W. (English Literature), and Zuzud Fachriya (Forest Management).
Tiyo Ardianto, the UGM KKN-PPM Slungkep team leader, stated that Aksi Slungkep Lestari’s goal is to contribute to forest restoration efforts to sustain terrestrial ecosystems.
“We are here to plant the vision of a green and sustainable village, and we hope that the people of Slungkep can realize this vision together after our service here ends. We hope that ten years from now, when we return to visit, each tree will have grown and become a blessing for all life,” said Ardianto in a statement sent to reporters on Wednesday (Aug. 14).
Slungkep Village Head Agus Susanto praised the program as an impressive initiative considering human life’s long-term sustainability. He added that the village government will follow up on the program by involving the local community.
“The village government will ensure the sustainability of this program with the involvement of community elements,” he said.
The villagers supported this tree-planting initiative, which involved various community elements, such as village officials, the Village Consultative Body (BPD), youth organizations (Karang Taruna), STAI Syekh Jangkung Pati, IPNU-IPPNU Kayen, and Trees4Trees.
