Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) introduced the UGM Online learning platform during an event led by the Rector of UGM, Professor Ova Emilia, at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UGM, on Monday (Feb. 12).
UGM Online is an open online learning platform offering diverse learning programs, including micro-credentials, massive open online courses (MOOCs), and modular courses. The platform aims to extend access to quality education to a broader audience, domestically and internationally (SDGs 4: Quality Education).
The launch was attended by the UGM Rector, Vice-Rector for Human Resources and Finance, deans of faculties, and the faculty/school knowledge channel development team.
It commenced with remarks and guidance from the rector, followed by presentations on “Utilizing UGM Online for Competency and Skills Strengthening” by the Director of Academic Studies and Innovation, “Technologies Used in UGM Online” by the Director of Information Technology, and “UGM Online Gain Sharing System” by a representative from the Directorate of Finance.
“UGM Online allows us to share knowledge with students and the wider Indonesian and global community. We aspire for UGM to take on a more significant role in educating the nation and society through the UGM Online platform,” stated the rector.
Rector Emilia highlighted that UGM Online embodies the university’s inclusive commitment to extending broader and higher-quality educational access to the community.
“With UGM Online, we aim to make the learning process more flexible and tailored to the needs of participants. It provides an avenue for disseminating SDG values to young people who have experienced face-to-face learning at UGM and to a wider audience across regions. This enables the widespread dissemination of the values encapsulated in SDGs,” she added.
UGM Online offers various courses from diverse fields of study, including natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and humanities. With easy access via mobile devices or computers, users can enroll in courses based on their interests and needs.
“UGM Online plays a pivotal role in enhancing education within the broader community. It offers three-course models: public, free, and paid. In this initial phase, 60 courses are available on UGM Online, attracting 2,223 general participants and 728 students during the promotional period,” explained Dr. Hatma Suryatmojo, Director of Academic Studies and Innovation at UGM.
UGM Online is anticipated to serve as a valuable open learning platform for the broader community, elevating the quality of education in Indonesia and fostering continuous learning and skill development.
