Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has opened its independent admission pathways, known as Ujian Masuk UGM (UM UGM), in addition to the academic excellence-based entrance selection (SNBP) and the national entrance test (SNBT).
The selection pathways for UM UGM include the Talent Scouting for Underprivileged Students (PBUTM), Talent Scouting for Outstanding Students (PBUB), UGM Tridharma Affirmation, and the UGM Independent Selection based on the Computer-Based Test (UM UGM CBT).
UGM also offers an International Undergraduate Program (IUP).
“With a total student quota of 9,236, 30% is allocated for SNBP, 30% for SNBT, and 40% for UM UGM,” said UGM’s Director of Education and Teaching, Professor Gandes Retno Rahayu, during the UGM New Student Admission Pathway Introduction event on Sunday, Mar. 16, 2025.
Professor Rahayu explained some changes in the UM UGM mechanism, particularly in the UM UGM CBT pathway.
This year, participants can choose two study programs.
Previously, tests were divided into Science and Technology (Saintek), Social Science and Humanities (Soshum), and Mixed categories.
This year, the exam is more streamlined. It consists of a Basic Skills Test (Indonesian Language, English, and Basic Mathematics), an Academic Potential Test, and an Academic Ability Test based on two subjects related to the chosen study program.
“For instance, if a student chooses the Physics program, the test will cover Science, Mathematics, and Physics; for Sociology, it will include History and Sociology. The complete list of subjects can be found on the website,” she added.
Dr. Sigit Priyanta, Secretary of UGM’s Directorate of Education and Teaching, explained that general requirements for the PBUB pathway include being in the top 25 in class.
This is also proven by report cards and having a certificate in Science and Technology fields (Mathematics, Science, Physics, Chemistry, Informatics, Biology, Astronomy, Earth Sciences, etc.), with at least a first-place provincial-level award. For sports and arts, candidates must have placed first or second at the provincial level, and for arts (photography, visual arts, religious arts, theater, orchestra, choir, dance, karawitan, sinden), certificates for at least first or second place at the provincial level are required.
Meanwhile, PBUTM is designed to support high-achieving students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Requirements include holding a Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) and having a combined gross parental income of no more than Rp4 million per month or Rp750,000 per dependent.
The parents’ highest educational attainment must not exceed a bachelor’s degree.
For PBUB, recognized certificates may come from various organizers, such as the International Mathematics Olympiad and the International Biology Olympiad. National-level competitions organized by BRIN, the Ministry of Higher Education, OSN Puspresnas, UGM, or debates like LDBI and the National School Debating Championship are also accepted.
Through the Affirmation pathway, UGM offers opportunities for students from the underdeveloped, frontier, outermost (3T) regions.
This pathway is designed for high-achieving students from these areas and those involved in UGM’s tri-dharma partner programs, including ministries, local governments, state-owned enterprises, and industries.
Registration for PBUB and PBUTM is open from May 6 to Jun. 10, 2025.
Skill tests for sports and arts applicants will be held on June 25–26, 2025.
The Tri-dharma Affirmation pathway is open from Mar. 18 to Apr. 17, 2025, and administrative results will be announced on Apr. 30.
Accepted students will join a pre-university program from May 5 to Jul. 4, 2025.
UM UGM CBT registration is open from May 6 to Jun. 10, 2025, and exams will be held in Jakarta and Yogyakarta.
This pathway is for high school graduates from the past two years or equivalent graduates with a maximum age of 25 by Jul. 1, 2025.
The final results are expected on Jul. 19, 2025.
Dr. Priyanta explained that all registration for UGM’s independent pathways is done online via the official website um.ugm.ac.id.
Applicants are required to create an account, fill out personal information, upload required documents, and complete the registration.
The registration fee varies, from Rp275,000 for PBUB to Rp500,000 for the Affirmation pathway. The UM UGM CBT fee depends on the exam location.
Regarding tuition fees, students admitted through the independent pathways are subject to an additional Institutional Development Fee (IPI) of Rp30 million for Science, Technology, and Health programs and Rp20 million for Social Science and Humanities programs.
Dr. Priyanta advised prospective students to choose a suitable and linear study program, as misalignment could impact scoring.
“Applicants should review their interests and enthusiasm in learning and consider how these align with future career prospects,” he said.
