Get ready for a groundbreaking change at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)! UGM has confirmed that starting Jan. 1, 2024, extracurricular activities will be recognized or converted into credit semester units (SKS).
This transformative decision follows the issuance of Rector’s Regulation Number 5 of 2023 regarding the Recognition of Extracurricular Activities.
The Director of Student Affairs at UGM, Dr. Sindung Tjahyadi, made the exciting announcement on Wednesday (Dec. 20) at UGM, sharing the details of this new initiative.
Under this regulation, seven categories of extracurricular activities are eligible for conversion into credit semester units, each carrying a weight equivalent to 1 or 2-credit semester units.
These encompass competitions/festivals, entrepreneurship, community empowerment, independent studies/research/projects, social/humanitarian projects, organizations and leadership, and sports and the arts.
To qualify for this groundbreaking recognition, whether as a solo participant or part of a group, students must be active in their studies and have completed their first-semester courses.
Additionally, they need to present evidence, such as letters or documents related to their extracurricular engagements.
The activities must span at least one semester, except for competitions/festivals. Students seeking recognition can upload supporting data through the Simaster within one year of completing the extracurricular activities.
Dr. Tjahyadi emphasized the verification process, where a dedicated team will scrutinize the administrative aspects of the submitted proposals. The administrative verification is the initial step in assessing the recognition request.
The subsequent stage involves a review team evaluating and offering submission recommendations. These recommendations may result in approval, rejection, or issuance of a certificate (SKPI) for the student’s extracurricular achievement.
“The review team will decide whether the submitted recognition should be acknowledged as SKPI. Upon approval, the Directorate of Student Affairs/Faculty will issue a recognition certificate following the due process,” the director explained.
Once the recognition is approved, students can seamlessly integrate the activities into their academic data. The study program will determine how the recognition fits within the program courses or interdisciplinary courses with university codes.
“20 courses are available for the recognition,” he concluded.
