UGM Travel Business students organized the 12th National Tourism Olympiad.
The olympiad with the theme “The Next Chapter: Unlock the Hidden Treasure of Tourism” was to help and provide a platform for high school students throughout Indonesia to channel their talents and creativity.
The competition occurred at the UGM Teaching Industry Learning Center (TILC) building and the Vocational College.
The 12th National Tourism Olympiad, held on Sunday (October 29), featured nine branches of competition: written ideas, storytelling, smart tourism quiz, guiding, tourism debate, creative dance, karawitan (traditional Javanese music), video creation, and tourism infographics.
“Not less than 800 participants took part in this competition, involving 172 high schools throughout Indonesia,” said Ardhana Dea Az Zahra, the olympiad’s PR, at the UGM campus on Monday (November 6).
Az Zahra explained that this prestigious event competed for the Sultan Hamengkubuwana X Rotating Trophy. Ponorogo State High School 1 was declared the overall champion by winning two gold medals and one silver medal in the creative dance, storytelling, and karawitan competitions.
The 12th National Tourism Olympiad resulted in the written ideas won by South Kuta State High School 1 as the first winner, Wonosobo State High School 1 as the second winner, and Badegan State High School 1 as the third winner.
In the storytelling competition, the first winner was Ponorogo State High School 1, Samarinda State High School 10 in second place, and Penabur High School in third place.
In the smart tourism quiz, the first winner was Bumi Shalawat High School, followed by Yogyakarta Madrasa School 1 in second place, and Darul Quran Mulia B in third place.
In the guiding competition, the first winner was Surakarta Vocational School 6, Boyolangu Vocational School 1 in second place, and Bambanglipuro State High School 1 in third place.
The tourism debate was won by Singaraja State High School 1 (first place), Kediri Madrasa School 2 (second place), and Ammanatul Ummah Putra Madrasa School (third place).
In the creative dance competition, the first winner was Ponorogo State High School 1, PGRI Cicurug High School in second place, and Bopkri 1 High School in third place.
For the karawitan competition, the first winner was Nganjuk State High School 3, Ponorogo State High School 1 in second place, and Sumberlawang State High School 1 in third place.
Video creation was won by Gombong Vocational School 1 (first place), Informatika Pesat Vocational School (second place), and Bumi Shalawat High School (third place).
In tourism infographics, the first winner was Bumi Shalawat High School, followed by Denpasar State High School 3 in second place, and Badegan State High School 1 in third place.
The 12th National Tourism Olympiad winners are entitled to receive medals, certificates of appreciation, and coaching funds.
