Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) stands at the forefront of innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of Indonesian education.
The dynamic shifts brought about by the internet, automation, and artificial intelligence have significantly reshaped the employment terrain, demanding a more adaptable and continually educated workforce.
Recognizing the potential challenges of this transformative period, UGM is embracing its pivotal role in molding the future workforce.
In alignment with the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Strategic Plan for 2020-2024, UGM is dedicated to elevating the quality of learning, enhancing the relevance of higher education, and fostering the development of competent teachers and staff.
The overarching goal for the tri dharma policy spanning 2022-2027 is to position UGM as an outstanding, innovative, inclusive, and socially responsible university.
Dr. Hatma Suryatmojo, the Director of Academic Studies and Innovation, emphasized UGM’s commitment to translating these aspirations into reality.
In line with the UGM Strategic Plan for 2022-2027, a tangible manifestation of this commitment has emerged as the UGM Online platform (https://ugmonline.id).
This open and online education system, rooted in Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) principles, is designed to facilitate lifelong learning and Continuing Education.
“UGM Online is accessible to everyone—students, professionals, practitioners, and policymakers alike—who seek to enhance their knowledge and skills across diverse fields,” declared Dr. Suryatmojo on Tuesday, December 19.
Moreover, UGM Online directly responds to the Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 53 of 2023, which advocates incorporating learning materials as micro-credential programs or open online courses (MOOC) as part of the higher education quality assurance framework.
UGM Online, a web-based platform, offers certified micro-credential learning materials in MOOC format. This initiative not only supports UGM’s commitment to quality education but also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
“We launch UGM Online today to coincide with UGM’s 74th anniversary on December 19,” the director proudly announced.
The inaugural launch showcased 58 classes available in Indonesian and English, spanning diverse disciplines such as agriculture, information technology, psychology, education, and general sciences.
UGM Online aims to provide a versatile and inclusive learning experience, making education accessible, affordable, and customizable globally to learners’ unique needs and preferences.
The array of classes offered on UGM Online reflects a commitment to diversity, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or location, can learn at UGM.
He underscored that UGM Online represents a powerful expression of UGM’s commitment to inclusive education, with all content collaboratively developed with esteemed professors, instructors, and practitioners.
Through this innovative platform, UGM continues to fulfill its mission of being a trailblazer in producing exceptional human resources for Indonesia through quality education.
