
The academic community of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is once again in mourning. The Faculty of Agriculture has lost one of its esteemed professors, Bambang Hendro Sunarminto, who passed away on Saturday (Aug. 30) at 06.11 a.m. at his residence in Sleman Regency, at the age of 70. Before being laid to rest at the UGM Cemetery in Sawitsari, his remains were placed in state at the Balairung, UGM Central Office.
Chair of the UGM Board of Professors, Professor M. Baiquni, expressed his condolences on the passing of Professor Sunarminto. He recalled the late professor as both a teacher and a role model for students and the wider academic community.
“On this solemn occasion, allow me, on behalf of Universitas Gadjah Mada, to extend our deepest gratitude to the late Professor Bambang Hendro Sunarminto, who has been a teacher and role model for us all,” he said.
Professor Baiquni noted that Professor Sunarminto, a retired lecturer from the Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, was inaugurated as a professor on Mar. 29, 2011, with his inaugural speech titled “Indonesia Waiting to Become a Major Producer of Agricultural Commodities.”
In his address, Professor Sunarminto highlighted Indonesia’s advantageous geographical position for agriculture and emphasized that, if managed properly, it could lead to a sustainable future for the nation.
Concluding his remarks, Professor Baiquni invited mourners to pray for the late professor and continue his legacy of innovation.
“May God Almighty always protect and guide us in advancing knowledge and carrying forward his works and innovations in the years to come,” he concluded.
