Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) proudly stands as the premier university for double degree/joint degree programs among the beneficiaries of the 2024 LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education) scholarships.
“UGM is the preferred university in Indonesia for LPDP double degree/joint degree program scholarship recipients. This underscores the keen interest of UGM’s academic programs,” declared Professor Wening Udasmoro, UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, on Thursday (Jan. 18).
Emphasizing that the double degree and joint degree programs align with UGM’s commitment to elevate Indonesia’s academic footprint globally, Professor Udasmoro expressed her optimism that the quality and quantity of UGM study programs and student participation in this program would burgeon in the future.
In 2024, LPDP unveiled three scholarship schemes for double degree/joint degree programs: the affirmative program (targeting affirmative regions, sons and daughters of Papua, people with disabilities, and the underprivileged), the targeted program (catering to civil servants/Indonesian National Armed Forces/Police), and the general program (embracing regular and partial applicants).
As per LPDP’s official guidelines, regular and partial scholarship applicants can choose from 131 double-degree/joint degree programs.
Meanwhile, applicants for targeted scholarships geared towards civil servants/Indonesian National Armed Forces/Police have 140 choices, and those applying for affirmative scholarships have a selection pool of 160 double degree/joint degree programs.
“At UGM, 85 study programs welcome applicants for regular and partial scholarships in double degree/joint degree programs. For targeted scholarships, there are 88 study programs, and affirmative scholarships extend to 92 study programs,” said Professor Udasmoro.
Providing a glimpse into the diverse opportunities, Professor Udasmoro cited examples such as Master of Business Administration students at UGM availing regular and partial scholarships to pursue studies at the University of Queensland’s Master of Commerce in Australia.
Civil servants/Indonesian National Armed Forces/Police targeted scholarship recipients, on the other hand, can delve into the Master of Urban and Regional Planning at UGM coupled with the Master of Science in Environmental and Infrastructure at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands.
Affirmative scholarship beneficiaries can immerse themselves in studies at UGM’s Master of Agricultural Engineering and Kyoto University’s Master of Agricultural Science in Japan, all within a single study period.

The double degree program entails obtaining two academic degrees simultaneously within a single study period from two universities—one in Indonesia and one overseas.
Conversely, the joint degree program is a collaborative endeavor between two universities—one in Indonesia and one overseas—to secure a single academic degree within the same timeframe.
This program caters to Indonesian citizens enrolling in master’s and doctoral programs with double degree and joint degree study schemes. Phase 1 registration is open from Jan. 11 to Feb. 12, 2024, followed by phase 2 from Jun. 19 to Jul. 18, 2024.
