The academic community of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) mourns the passing of Professor Arief Suadi of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM), who passed away on Sunday (Apr. 27) at 20:27 WIB at Jogja International Hospital.
His remains were laid to rest at the UGM Family Cemetery in Sawitsari on Monday (Apr. 28) at 13:00 WIB, following a memorial service held at Balairung, the UGM Main Building.
Dean of FEB UGM, Professor Didi Achjari, conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family. He remembered Professor Arief Suadi as a role model for his students and a joyful lecturer who inspired many.
“As a former student, I remember how Professor Arief taught with joy and shared his vast knowledge, contributing greatly to administrative matters both on and off campus. We have lost an inspiring and dedicated figure, not only for FEB UGM but for UGM as a whole. Today, we are here to pay our final respects,” said Professor Achjari.
Chair of the UGM Council of Professors, Professor M. Baiquni, also expressed his condolences, offering prayers that the Almighty grant Professor Arief Suadi the highest place and that his family be given strength and fortitude to carry on his legacy.
Professor Arief Suadi was a professor of Accounting at FEB UGM. He was inaugurated as a professor on Aug. 26, 2000, delivering a professorial lecture titled “The Significance and Various Concepts of Profit.”
“He chose that topic because at the time, profit or income had become increasingly important amid the unresolved economic challenges following the 1998 crisis,” said Professor Baiquni.
He expressed hope that the knowledge and wisdom passed on by Professor Arief would continue to benefit future generations and serve as a lasting contribution, bringing him rewards in the hereafter.
He also invited the UGM community to pray and accompany Professor Arief to his final resting place.
“May the Almighty forgive his sins, multiply his good deeds, and grant him peace and the highest place of honor. May the family he leaves behind find solace. We also pray that Universitas Gadjah Mada will continue to produce brilliant scholars like the late Professor Arief,” he concluded.
