Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has launched a bicycle loan service for students in need, especially those with financial constraints who do not own a personal vehicle for commuting to campus.
This initiative is part of the Directorate of Student Affairs’ efforts to facilitate student mobility on campus. The service aims to provide an efficient and eco-friendly transportation option, contribute to creating an educopolis campus, and promote a cycling culture among students.
Dr. Hempri Suyatna, Secretary of the Directorate of Student Affairs, stated that the bicycle loan program reflects UGM’s commitment to supporting students and addressing mobility issues on campus.
“We hope this program will eliminate transportation challenges for students, allowing them to focus more on their academic activities without transportation concerns,” said Dr. Suyatna.
The bicycle loan service helps students more easily access educational facilities such as libraries, classrooms, and laboratories. Additionally, it aims to reduce reliance on public transportation or motor vehicles, supporting environmental preservation and reducing carbon emissions around the campus.
“This can foster a healthier lifestyle and create a positive trend among students,” Dr. Suyatna added.
The program is expected to have a domino effect, including an increase in the number of students and faculty who cycle, more partner companies supporting the provision of bicycles and racks, and improvements in public infrastructure related to bicycle and pedestrian safety in Yogyakarta.
Student registration for bicycle loans runs from August 5-9, 2024, via the link ugm.id/PinjamSepedaKhusus. The verification and selection process will occur from August 10-14, 2024. Selected students will then sign the loan agreement and receive the bicycle receipt.
