The UGM Chem-E-Car team, Reactics, has once again achieved global recognition. This time, they secured the 3rd Best Poster award at the competition organized by Universiti Teknologi Mara, conducted virtually in Selangor, Malaysia, from November 4 to 6, 2023.
Reactics sent two representatives, Abiyasa and Abimanyu, and made it to the Top 10 Performance Race Competition.
Abiyasa, led by Muhammad Alvin Sofyan (Chemical Engineering), consisted of four members: Anindya Yaffa Tanaya Osya (Chemistry), Oktavianus Stevian Angelino (Chemical Engineering), Muhammad Manaf Romli (Mechanical Engineering), with the assistance of manager Ray Chlarity Zain (Chemical Engineering).
Meanwhile, Abimanyu, led by Auriel Azril Ardin (Computer Science and Electronics), comprised four members: Issac Varado (Chemical Engineering), Bintang Ramadhan (Chemical Engineering), Ariyo Favian Tamim (Mechanical Engineering), Ikhlasul Amal Abda’i (Computer Science and Electronics), with the assistance of manager Febriane Silvara (Chemical Engineering).
Auriel Ardin mentioned that the Reactics team had started preparing in September 2023. They began designing an environmentally friendly chemical-based prototype car and conducted numerous experiments every weekend.
“In the recent competition, both Reactics units demonstrated dedication and maximum capability in the preparation and execution of the competition,” he explained in a statement received on Thursday (November 9).
He explained that the Chem-E-Car competition tests the team’s ability to design vehicles using the right chemical reactions.
The vehicles are tested for their ability to complete two challenges: putting a golf ball into a goal and knocking down bowling pins by hitting a golf ball. The Reactics team also designed a creative poster for the Poster Competition category.
Muhammad Sofyan expressed pride in participating in the Chem-E-Car competition in Malaysia and competing with the world’s best teams.
“Participating in the recent competition was an unforgettable experience for us. We learned a lot about teamwork and were trained to think critically and adapt to the pressures of the competition environment,” he said.
The achievements of the Reactics team are undoubtedly attributed to the university, faculty, and guidance from lecturers Dr. Budhijanto, Addin Suwastono, Mokhammad Fajar Pradipta, and Dr. Robertus Dimas Dhewangga Putra.
Additionally, the team received support from sponsors, including PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk., and PT Sanggar Sarana Baja.
“Undoubtedly, the achievements attained are not the final steps for Reactics in exploring international competitions. This accomplishment serves as an evaluation to improve,” said Sofyan.
“Reactics’ next steps are aimed at achieving further success at the national and international levels.”
