The UGM Innovation and Creativity Hub (GIK UGM), in collaboration with the Gadjah Mada Law Alumni Family (KAHGAMA) and Sirah Travel, officially launched Jogja Run’nShine on Friday (Jul. 18) at GIK UGM.
This event marks the first recreational running event in Indonesia that combines sports, art, music, and local culinary elements into one experience.
Jogja Run’nShine will be held on (Sep. 14), 2025, in the GIK UGM area and is open to all, from professional runners, sports communities, students, and tourists, to families.
Embracing concepts of inclusivity and cultural diversity, this event is designed as a meeting space for people from diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Alfatika Aunuriella Dini, Executive Director of GIK UGM, stated that the spirit of Jogja Renaissance inspires Jogja Run’nShine.
This spirit positions Yogyakarta as a center of excellence in civilization, grounded in science, art, and civilized values.
“Jogja Run’nShine is not just a running event. It is a celebration of the city’s energy through community interaction, art, and cultural performances, as well as an exploration of local richness. This is the meaning of renaissance that we want to revive,” Dr. Dini said.
More than just a sports activity, this event carries the principle of Synergy 5K: Kampus (Campus), Keraton (Palace), Kampung (Village), Komunitas (Community), and Korporasi (Corporation).
This concept is realized through a running route that passes significant cultural points in Yogyakarta City and involves diverse stakeholders.
“This cross-sector approach is expected to create a participatory space connecting educational institutions, cultural communities, artists, culinary MSMEs, and the private sector,” Septyadi Pityanta, Race Director from Jorace Sports Event Organizer, explained.
Local cultural richness is also evident in visual and artistic forms, ranging from the event mascot, a collaboration with Studio HEIMLO, to official jerseys designed in collaboration with the visual artist duo TEMPA.
Additionally, the event features the reopening of Galeri Bulaksumur as a space for exploring imagery that represents the Bulaksumur-Gampingan axis concept.
Supervisor of the GIK UGM Program Experience, Gilang W. April, added that this event is expected to serve as a meeting point across generations and sectors.
It aims to strengthen Yogyakarta’s position as a creative, healthy, and harmonious living space.
“Jogja Run’nShine is a space to strengthen collaboration and build public enthusiasm in celebrating culture through positive and healthy activities,” April said.
National musician Sal Priadi will enliven the peak event of Jogja Run’nShine.
It will also feature various supporting activities, including art performances, music stages, and a culinary festival.
Chair of KAHGAMA, Professor Paripurna P. Sugarda, welcomed the organization of this activity.
He sees it as a tangible contribution from UGM law alumni to strengthen the spirit of togetherness, health, and love for Yogyakarta. This is achieved through a creative and enjoyable medium.
Through the organization of Jogja Run’nShine, Universitas Gadjah Mada reaffirms its commitment as an institution that not only excels in academics and research but also drives social innovation, culture, and community synergy.
This initiative reflects UGM’s spirit in building a vibrant, open, and impactful campus ecosystem for society.
