In response to the rapidly advancing times, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is strengthening its role in developing Indonesia’s artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem by launching the elevAIte Batch 1 AI Certification Program.
A total of 60 selected participants, comprising UGM lecturers, staff, and students, joined this program after completing the initial training phase.
This AI talent certification initiative is a collaborative program between UGM, Microsoft Indonesia, and the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).
It supports the national movement to produce one million AI talents.
To prepare competent and adaptive human resources for the global industry, the certification curriculum covers fundamental AI concepts, ethics, machine learning, and the practical use of Microsoft technologies.
Head of UGM’s Digital Transformation Bureau, Dr. Mardhani Riasetiawan, stated that this certification effort is a concrete step by UGM to ensure the development of an AI ecosystem within the academic community.
“UGM wants to ensure that participants are not only trained but also certified according to industry standards. This validates their readiness to actively participate in the national digital transformation,” he said on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
Unlike previous training, this certification round also serves as a competency selection phase to assess participants’ readiness to take on roles as trainers, mentors, and AI community leaders in their environments.
The program aims to enhance individual capacities and produce digital transformation ambassadors who can inspire and train others.
“Through their participation in this training, we hope the participants gain new perspectives on the importance of mastering AI for the future of various academic fields,” he added.
Dr. Riasetiawan emphasized that UGM remains committed to expanding the reach of this AI talent certification program by targeting other institutions under the Kampus Merdeka consortium and partnering with local governments to help realize a sovereign Indonesia in the field of technology and digital innovation.
