Three study programs at UGM have obtained accreditation from the international accreditation agency ASIIN (Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik) from Germany for engineering, mathematics and science, agriculture, and biology.
The three programs are Master’s in Biology, Master’s in Biotechnology, and Doctorate in Computer Science.
The Head of the University Quality Assurance and Reputation Unit at UGM, Professor Indra Wijaya Kusuma, stated that UGM conducts international accreditation for study programs to enhance the quality of education and the university’s reputation.
Currently, 59 study programs have received international accreditation.
“Three have just been obtained from ASIIN, namely for Master’s in Biology, Master’s in Biotechnology, and Doctorate in Computer Science,” he explained Wednesday (November 1) at UGM.
He mentioned that alongside the three programs, five other programs received extensions or re-accreditation from ASIIN.
These five programs include the Bachelor’s in Biology, Bachelor’s in Animal Science and Industry, Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Bachelor’s in Mathematics, and Bachelor’s in Statistics.
Professor Kusuma added that UGM is currently awaiting the accreditation results for four other study programs from ASIIN and FIBAA.
“With the acquisition of international accreditation, the programs are expected to increase the number of foreign students, in line with sustainable quality improvement,” he said.
Upon achieving ASIIN accreditation for the Computer Science Doctorate program, the Dean of the UGM Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Professor Kuwat Triyana, expressed deep gratitude.
With this ASIIN accreditation, he hopes the program will continue to excel and gain global recognition. Additionally, the program can contribute significantly to the development of computer science and prepare the younger generation to face future challenges.
“We express our gratitude to the university and all those who have provided tremendous support in our journey towards this success,” he stated.
The Dean of the UGM Faculty of Biology, Professor Budi Setiadi Daryono, mentioned that the Faculty of Biology has a vision and mission to excel in tropical biology and gain international recognition to prioritize the Master’s in Biology to meet international standards through ASIIN accreditation.
“The achievement of ASIIN international accreditation is a crucial and strategic step in developing knowledge, particularly in tropical biology in Indonesia and the world,” he said.
Professor Daryono explained that the ASIIN international accreditation obtained by the Master’s in Biology is the first in the field of biology in Indonesia.
Therefore, this achievement will serve as a role model and benchmark for other biology programs in public and private universities in Indonesia.
The Dean of the UGM Graduate School, Professor Siti Malkhamah, mentioned that attaining the accreditation for the Master’s in Biotechnology is a very proud achievement. Moreover, in this first ASIIN international accreditation, the program was directly accredited for six years.
“The Graduate School expresses gratitude to the university leadership and various faculties that supported the Master’s in Biotechnology. Hopefully, the success of this program will soon be followed by others,” she explained.
ASIIN international accreditation is an outcome-based accreditation, emphasizing that the program has implemented outcome-based education (OBE) by evaluating the achievement of program outcomes and showing the institution’s commitment to facilitating OBE implementation.
