Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)’s Tennis Club hosted an inter-staff tennis tournament on Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Held at the UGM Wisdom Park Tennis Court, the tournament drew 40 participants, including lecturers, staff, and retirees.
The event was officially opened by UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia, who symbolically hit a tennis ball toward the center of the court, followed by an exhibition match.
Kuncoro Harto Widodo, Chair of the UGM Tennis Club, stated that the club currently has around 50 to 60 members.
He explained that tennis plays a role in supporting UGM’s Health Promoting University program.
“Tennis truly offers balance. On the court, we can express ourselves, which helps improve both mental and physical health,” he said.
Achmadi Priyatmojo, Chair of Korpagama UGM, also appreciates the event, stating that it promotes a healthy lifestyle and that his organization fully supports such activities.
He noted that sports contribute to joy and emotional well-being, which can help prevent illness.
In her remarks, Rector Emilia recalled her early days becoming familiar with tennis during her time as a resident medical student.
“Back then, I was asked by a senior to collect tennis balls,” she reminisced.
She affirmed her support for the tennis club and its activities.
Although still new to the sport, she has begun practicing regularly over the past month.
“Let’s continue to energize our tennis community and its activities. I believe this way, we can all stay healthy,” she concluded.
