Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Professor Ova Emilia, officially sent off 54 Student Creativity Program (PKM) teams to compete in the 37th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS), which will be held at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, East Java, from Oct. 14 to 19.
The UGM PIMNAS delegation was symbolically released by the rector, accompanied by the Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Sindung Tjahyadi, along with deans, vice deans, faculty supervisors, and mentors at the Balairung, UGM Central Office, on Friday afternoon (Oct. 11).
The rector emphasized the importance of achieving the best possible results, especially as UGM had won the overall championship the previous year. In addition to achieving excellence, she noted that PIMNAS is an opportunity for students to hone their creativity.
“Let PIMNAS be a moment of learning and an opportunity to achieve. We believe the students have gone through a long process and made many sacrifices, so it’s important to walk tall while remaining humble,” she advised.
The rector also reminded the PIMNAS participants not to feel burdened by the expectation of becoming overall champions but to focus on the journey and enjoy the competition process.
“Keep fighting and give your best,” she encouraged.
Brian Arianto Tanuwidjaja, representing the students, stated that the event serves as a platform for students to train early on to become a quality generation that can contribute to society.
“As students, we must not forget the importance of upholding our culture and honor wherever and whenever,” he said.
Dr. Sindung Tjahyadi reported that 54 UGM teams had qualified for PIMNAS this year. Initially, 181 UGM teams qualified for funding and carried out research stages.
“This time, 54 teams of 260 students are ready to compete in PIMNAS,” he explained.
He urged the students to maintain their physical condition during the event and continue consulting with their faculty supervisors. He also encouraged the team to stay optimistic and motivated throughout the competition.
“We have prepared medical personnel and psychological support for the students during the competition. This assistance is provided to help students perform at their best,” he concluded.
