UGM took proactive steps by organizing a new student admission roadshow across the Yogyakarta province. Spanning five days from Feb. 19 to 22, 2024, the roadshow journeyed through Gunungkidul, Bantul, Kulonprogo, Sleman, and the city of Yogyakarta.
Professor Gandes Retno Rahayu, the Director of Education and Teaching at UGM, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “This roadshow is UGM’s commitment to engaging with potential students across the Yogyakarta province. We aim to make information about new student admissions easily accessible.”
Professor Rahayu highlighted that the roadshow was tailored to reach schools in the remote corners of Gunungkidul and those in the peripheries of Kulon Progo, Bantul, Sleman, and the city of Yogyakarta.
During the sessions, comprehensive details were provided regarding new student admissions via the National Selection for New Student Admission (SNPMB), encompassing the SNBP (academic excellence selection) and SNBT (CBT) pathways. The diverse selection methods and admission pathways at UGM, including independent pathways, were also discussed.
Furthermore, UGM collaborated with representatives from schools in each regency/city in the province, in conjunction with the High School Education Office in each district, to facilitate the participation of teachers and students.
“For seamless execution, we partnered with one school in each district to serve as the venue for dissemination,” Professor Rahayu added.
Dissemination events were held at strategic locations across the province. SMK Negeri 2 Wonosari hosted the event in Gunungkidul, while SMA Negeri 1 Wates accommodated the dissemination in Kulon Progo.
Bantul’s session took place at SMA Negeri 1 Bantul and Sleman’s at SMK Negeri 2 Depok Sleman. Lastly, SMA Negeri 3 Yogyakarta was the venue for the dissemination in the city of Yogyakarta.
This outreach activity garnered positive responses in each location. Tukiman, a representative of the High School Education Office in Gunungkidul, warmly welcomed the initiative.
“We wholeheartedly embrace this activity. We hope that high school students graduating, especially in the Gunungkidul Regency, can leverage this invaluable opportunity to gather accurate information for their college preparations,” he expressed during the recent session.
Maryono, the Head of the High School Education Office in Yogyakarta City, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the significant benefits of UGM’s dissemination activities for prospective students.
Many students, he noted, lack clarity regarding university enrollment procedures. Through these dissemination sessions, students learn about registration procedures, study programs, and tuition fees.
Ramadhan Yoga, a SMA Negeri 3 Bantul student, expressed his delight in participating in the event. He underscored the importance of the event in providing crucial information about UGM’s study programs.
“I’ve registered for SNBP in the UGM Vocational College, particularly in the Agroindustrial Product Development program. This dissemination is pivotal because it offers clear insights into the study program I’m interested in,” he shared.
Similarly, Syifa Aulia Rahma, a twelfth grader at SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari aspiring to join the UGM Civil Engineering Study Program, lauded the UGM dissemination for shedding light on vital information.
“Through the dissemination, I gained insights into what UGM offers. Many details that were previously unclear and unofficial became clear through this activity,” she remarked.
