Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) sends the largest Student Creativity Program (PKM) teams to the 37th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) in 2024.
This event will be held at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya, East Java, from Oct. 16 to 22. 54 UGM’s PKM teams across various categories have qualified for the competition.
According to UGM’s Center for Creativity, 260 students from 54 teams will participate in PIMNAS this year, with the Faculty of Engineering, Vocational College, and Faculty of Pharmacy contributing the most students.
“This is something to be proud of and appreciate. This shows that UGM’s student innovation potential remains the highest among universities. This is the result of the hard work of students, lecturers, mentors, and supervisors,” said Dr. Hempri Suyatna, Secretary of the UGM Directorate of Student Affairs, on Thursday (Sep. 5).
Dr. Suyatna hopes UGM can maintain its status as the overall champion of PIMNAS, as achieved in previous years. He emphasized the key is for students to present their best work at PIMNAS.
“Use PIMNAS as a learning platform for developing student innovation and creativity,” he advised.
The directorate will provide intensive support from next week until mid-October to help students achieve the best results at PIMNAS. This includes workshops on public speaking, presentations, poster creation, and more, along with mental and physical health support to keep the team in optimal condition.
“This year’s preparation differs from previous years with a longer preparation period of about six weeks and outstanding enthusiasm from the team. Although UGM’s numerical achievement has decreased, UGM remains the top university in terms of the number of teams qualified for PIMNAS 37,” said Suprijani, Head of Student Creativity Development at UGM.
She added that many students who participated last year are more familiar with PIMNAS and can better guide their teams. Also, administrative system updates require adjustments.
“Preparation must be carefully monitored and not complacent with last year’s achievements,” she concluded.
