Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Sookmyung Women’s University and the Asia Pacific Women’s Information Network Center (APWINC), supported by the Ministry of Education of South Korea, conducted a competency enhancement training in leadership and digital entrepreneurship for young women, attended by around 60 young female participants.
Dr. Ngadisih, Head of the Sub-Directorate for Academic Innovation Development at the UGM Directorate of Academic Studies and Innovation (DKIA), stated that the empowerment of women was packaged in the Sookmyung UNESCO-UNITWIN Digital & Leadership Training event from Jul. 1-5, 2024.
This training aimed to enhance educational inclusivity and women’s empowerment through a program held at UGM.
“Empowering women through education and digital innovation is not only about academic life but also about the mission to transform society,” said Dr. Ngadisih in her statement sent to reporters on Tuesday, Jul. 9, 2024.
Dr. Ngadisih added that involving young women in this training encourages them to make positive changes by equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead in the digital era.
“We want to bridge the gap and create opportunities for everyone to receive inclusive education,” Dr. Ngadisih explained.
This annual program has been running since 2019 and was held offline this year. Two classes were available: Leadership Training and Digital Training, each with 30 undergraduate students from various faculties at UGM.
In the Leadership Training class, participants learned how to develop digital-based entrepreneurship. Meanwhile, in the Digital Training class, participants were taught to create digital applications based on their business ideas.
Professor Ji Won Choi from the Department of Mathematics at Sookmyung Women’s University explained that one of the program’s goals is to empower women through education.
She emphasized the importance of training in the digital and leadership realms, hoping this program would contribute to each participant’s personal development.
“We want more female leaders, not only for the community but also in universities,” Professor Choi said.
At the closing ceremony on Friday, Jul. 5, 2024, Dr. Irwan Endrayanto Aluicius, Head of the Sub-Directorate for Academic Studies at DKIA, announced the best groups and participants from each class.
Eight participants will have the opportunity to attend a follow-up workshop in Korea in November or December 2024.
In his closing speech, Dr. Aluicius expressed hope that this training would benefit the participants by developing their leadership and digital skills, enabling them to bring about positive changes for society in the future.
