A total of 25 UGM students are conducting the Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) in Tanjung Tiram District, Batubara Regency, North Sumatra Province.
The students plan to implement a project titled “Management of Lalang Village’s Potential as a Clean, Healthy, and Safe Area for Children.”
The KKN-PPM activities began on Jul. 1, 2024. They will end on Aug. 19, 2024, with a flag-raising ceremony on Aug. 17, 2024, along the Malacca Strait.
Acting Regent of Batubara, Heri Wahyudi, welcomed the presence of UGM students in the Batubara area. He hopes this activity can accelerate development in Batubara, especially in Tanjung Tiram district.
“It is hoped that KKN-PPM activities in Lalang Village will be a catalyst for the future development of Tanjung Tiram region,” said the regent when meeting the KKN-PPM students and their field supervisor, Dr. Widya Nayati, on Monday, Jul. 1, 2024, at Batubara Regency Government complex, North Sumatra.
Widya stated this is the first time KKN-PPM students have been deployed to Batubara Regency. The KKN-PPM activities in Batubara will be carried out in Lalang Village, Tanjung Tiram District.
“We will specifically carry out a work program in Village Lalang to make it a clean, healthy, and safe area for children,” she said.
The Chair of KAGAMA in North Sumatra, Mulianta Sitepu, appreciated the implementation of KKN-PPM in Batubara Regency and hoped that the students would uphold UGM’s good name and always respect local customs and ethics during their stay.
“Respecting local customs and traditions and maintaining proper etiquette in all activities should be our priority. Let’s stay enthusiastic in building Tanjung Tiram together with the community as a reflection of UGM’s spirit,” said the UGM Faculty of Agriculture alumnus in 1986.
The Chair of KAGAMA in Batubara, Anuarsyah, expressed a similar sentiment. He was happy to meet UGM students, who reminded him of his time as a UGM student conducting KKN-PPM in Purbalingga, Central Java.
“When asked to wear the KKN-PPM identity vest, my UGM spirit strengthened. My memories returned to when I did the KKN-PPM in Purbalingga in 1992. The joy of KKN truly remains in my heart and soul,” Anuarsyah recalled.
Aqil Rafi Aljauzia, the coordinator of the Tanjung Tiram unit, said that the messages conveyed by the alumni further motivated him and his team to carry out their service in Lalang Village as best as possible.
“UGM alumni truly feel the benefits of KKN. The KKN spirit is deeply ingrained. Although the KKN-PPM period is only 50 days, the spirit lasts a lifetime,” said the Social Development and Welfare student at the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol UGM).
Several guests attended this event, including Batubara Regional Secretary Norma Deli Siregar, Assistant II of Batubara Regency Government Bambang Hadisuwarno, Chair of Kagama in North Sumatera Mulianta Sitepu, Chair of Kagama in Batubara Anuarsyah, the Heads of OPD in Batubara Regency, and the Head of Tanjung Tiram District, Junaedi.
