Every year, UGM sends students to engage in community service in various regions of Indonesia through the KKN-PPM program.
The KKN program aims to help address various issues within society. Through various work programs, KKN students support government initiatives in achieving sustainable development.
One such example is the work done by the Kilau Dau team in Selokerto Hamlet, Selorejo, Dau District, Malang Regency. They collaborated in a communal effort to pave the shoulders of the road, aiming to create an inclusive, safe, responsible, and sustainable settlement.
Arifin Putra Pratama, one of the Kilau Dau team members, stated that the road shoulder paving was carried out through a communal effort involving residents from RT 15 and RT 16 of Selokerto Hamlet and UGM KKN students. The paving work was done voluntarily, with physical labor and materials provided by the residents.
“Although road shoulder paving is not a regular activity for the residents, they devote their energy and financial resources to realizing a beautiful, safe, and comfortable living environment. The village does not provide the budget for the paving work, but it is an accumulation of contributions from the residents through various social activities,” he explained.
Until now, the spirit of communal work in Selokerto Hamlet has been maintained. The community continues to uphold the tradition of collective work as they experience the benefits of such efforts and strengthen the relationships among residents.
