UGM students taking community service (KKN) in Bacan, South Halmahera, added excitement to the celebration of Eid al-Adha this year in Bibinoi and Songa Villages, East Bacan District.
Together with the villagers, the students participated in a torch parade and takbiran (chanting of “Allahu Akbar”) around the village on Wednesday evening (28/6).
People from various ethnic and religious backgrounds in the villages joined to liven up the Eid al-Adha torch parade, showing the unity and harmony of the villagers.
These students were previously sent off by the Rector of UGM on June 23, 2023, and arrived at the location on June 25, 2023. The local authorities warmly welcomed the arrival of the 30 students in the district.
Under the guidance of team coordinator Muhammad Yuukha Ilaiya, the students immediately engaged in various activities with the village and district governments, as well as with the second-level local government of South Halmahera Regency of North Maluku, to plan KKN agendas scheduled until mid-August 2023. Community activities became lively, especially during the celebration of Eid al-Adha.
“This is one of the aims of KKN in various parts of the archipelago; students can learn to understand the social, religious, and cultural diversity that exists in society,” explained the Field Supervising Lecturer of the Bacan unit, Dr. Suherman, in a press release received on Monday (3/7).
Dr. Suherman stated that the students are implementing work programs under the overarching theme of “Optimizing the Potential of Natural Resources in Songa and Bibinoi Villages, East Bacan District, South Halmahera Regency, Towards Village Self-Reliance in Anticipation of the New Normal Era Post-COVID-19 through the Concept of Education for Sustainable Development.”
The program comprises four clusters: science and technology, agriculture, pharmacy and health, and social sciences. In addition, a special program will be carried out to develop a tourism village that showcases the natural beauty of waterfalls combined with the richness of culture and abundant natural resources.
“Considering that Bibinoi and Songa are coastal villages, the livelihoods of fishermen and farmers dominate the culture of the community,” he explained.
