Students from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) who are recipients of the Cendekia BAZNAS Scholarship (BCB) and members of the Nahdlatul Ulama Student Family (KMNU) held a ‘1000 Ramadan Lights’ boarding event at the NU Bintan Saadilah Al-Rasyid Orphanage in Krapyak Wetan, Yogyakarta, on Saturday, Mar. 15, 2025.
The social service event aimed to foster a spirit of service and care during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event featured fun and educational activities, which entertained the children and helped them develop teamwork, creativity, and a sense of togetherness.
Several games were played, including a ‘Guess the Gesture’ game, which was chosen to make the event more interactive by involving all the orphanage children and the committee in the games.
Fahrudin Azis, a UGM student and BCB recipient, delivered a short religious talk before the break.
At the end of the event, the orphanage management received cash, books, and basic necessities donated by KMNU UGM and BCB UGM.
Abdul Azis Wahidin, caretaker of the NU Bintan Saadillah Al-Rasyid Orphanage, expressed his appreciation for the activities organized by the BCB and KMNU UGM students.
He hoped that this act of service and social action would positively impact the students, fostering empathy and care for others.
“We hope that events like this not only benefit the orphanage children but also inspire other young people to continue spreading kindness,” he said.
He was grateful for the engaging and educational games, which involved all the children in joyful participation.
The NU Bintan Saadilah Al-Rasyid Orphanage children appeared cheerful and enthusiastic throughout the activities.
“This is a shared happiness for the committee, who prepared this event with dedication, and us. We are also very thankful for the support and care from UGM students,” he added.
In his short religious talk, Fahrudin Azis invited all participants to reflect on the virtues of the holy month of Ramadan.
He also encouraged everyone to join in prayer for their fellow Muslims in Palestine, who are facing various hardships.
“Let us bow our heads and pray. We ask for strength and perseverance for our brothers and sisters in Palestine during these difficult times,” he said.
Satria Timur Wicaksana, the event coordinator and representative of BCB UGM, expressed hope that the ‘1000 Ramadan Lights’ boarding and social service program, which started in 2025, would continue in the future.
He emphasized that with the support of Baznas RI, Cendekia BAZNAS scholars are expected to become true Gadjah Mada individuals who contribute to the well-being of others.
“This event is a form of our responsibility and care as Gadjah Mada students,” he explained.
Aimmatul Husna, the event chair and host, expressed her gratitude for the smooth execution of the social service activities at the NU Bintan Saadilah Al-Rasyid Orphanage.
She shared the same hope that such events would continue annually, bringing happiness and benefits to others.
Through the ‘1000 Ramadan Lights’ boarding event, she hoped to instill a spirit of sharing, social awareness, and spiritual strength among the students during Ramadan.
She was pleased that the event could leave a lasting positive impact on the orphanage children and create fond memories.
“We all hope that similar activities can continue as they strengthen bonds of friendship and bring joy to more people,” she added.
