Four students from the International Relations Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Fisipol UGM), competed in the prestigious Singapore Model United Nations 2025 (SMUN 2025).
The event was organized by the National University of Singapore (NUS) from Jun. 2-5, 2025.
The four students, namely Dea Anggraini Putri Phatoni, Jasmine Naurah Sabrina, Debby Salsabila, and Palupi Esfandiany Widihartanto, are members of the UGM MUN Community. They represented UGM in the international competition.
Singapore MUN is one of the most prestigious MUN conferences, with thousands of participants from around the world.
Aware of this, the delegates from the UGM MUN Community prepared thoroughly.
“Every day we definitely had to study and practice to be ready to perform,” Phatoni said on Tuesday (Jun. 24).
Salsabila and Phatoni shared an interest in European history, so they joined the same council, the Historical European Council. Phatoni became Finland’s delegate, and Salsabila represented Spain.
Meanwhile, Widihartanto was the only delegate interested in economics. She became a member of the International Monetary Fund’s council and represented the United States.
Lastly, Sabrina represented Keisuke Suzuki, Minister of Justice, in the House of Representatives of Japan.

Their initiative, spirit, practice, and high hopes led them to achieve proud awards. Phatoni successfully received an Honorable Mention from the International Monetary Fund.
Not only that, but Sabrina was also awarded a Verbal Commendation for her performance in the House of Representatives of Japan.
“Through this competition, we learned real skills related to diplomacy, negotiation, and understanding various international political issues according to the council we participated in,” Widihartanto explained.
Salsabila also shared her comments, stating that this activity helped shape their mindset to view an issue from various diverse perspectives.
This viewing was in accordance with the positions of each respective country.
Furthermore, the UGM delegation gained cross-cultural understanding through cooperation with other delegates from many countries.
In the process, Phatoni, Salsabila, Widihartanto, and Sabrina were not alone.
The UGM MUN Community consistently provided full support to the four delegates. This included academic guidance, such as research training, speeches, and debates.
They also offered moral and emotional support to boost the delegates’ morale.
“To become part of the UGM delegation, my friends and I had to go through a rigorous and long selection process. However, our struggle finally paid off,” Sabrina stated.
The participation and achievements of these four delegates are not only a source of personal pride but also bring honor to UGM and its community, the UGM MUN Community.
They represent an institution capable of competing on the international stage.
They have proven that spirit, hard work, and perseverance are the keys to success in achieving victory.
