The UGM Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) team in Waru has contributed to running the Climate Village Program in Api-Api Village, North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan.
The unit has manifested its support by orchestrating a tree-planting initiative, sowing the seeds of environmental consciousness under the banner “Planting Tree Seedlings to Support the Climate Village Program.”
This endeavor took shape in collaboration with village authorities and the community of Api-Api Village on Wednesday (Jan. 17). Two hundred twenty saplings, representing 11 diverse fruit tree species, took root in the fertile soil.
The array included areca palm, jackfruit, durian, giant guava, forest guava, jengkol (dogfruit), cat’s eye fruit, matoa, rambai, rambutan, and soursop.
Team member Yudhistira shared, “These saplings are a generous contribution from the UGM Alumni Family in East Kalimantan (KAGAMA Kaltim).”
Highlighting the significance of the Climate Village Program, Yudhistira conveyed that it is an integral part of Indonesia’s commitment to combating climate change.
Tree planting aims to wield a positive impact by mitigating greenhouse gas effects and establishing a carbon storage reserve, particularly within the boundaries of Api-Api Village.
Sarinah, the Head of Api-Api Village, extended her heartfelt appreciation to the UGM Community Service Program in Waru. She commended the students for meticulously preparing and executing the program, from its conceptualization to the actual planting.
“We ardently hope these planted saplings thrive, directly benefiting the community. This effort is envisioned to fortify the familial bond between Universitas Gadjah Mada and the residents of Api-Api Village,” she expressed.
