Five students from the UGM Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB UGM) have successfully processed cocoa beans into high-value cosmetic products.
The product, named Kakolie Beauty, was developed by utilizing cocoa beans that had not been optimally used, transforming them into body care products that naturally brighten the skin, prevent fine lines, and are suitable for sensitive skin.
The five FEB UGM students are Jeanette Sabrina Nainggolan, along with four others from the Bachelor of Management Program, class of 2022, namely Karina Mutia Azrah, Gracella Tambunan, Hanna Takiya Irfan Bey, and Raisa Aulia.
This FEB UGM student team turned cocoa into various body care products, including soap, scrub, and lotion.
Jeanette Sabrina Nainggolan, one of the initiators of Kakolie Beauty, explained that she and her team developed this product using cocoa beans sourced from Putat Village, Gunungkidul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.
Putat Village is known as a cocoa production center. The development of this product aims to enhance cocoa’s utility and economic value.
“We strive to create a body care product using cocoa beans as the main ingredient, which contain high levels of antioxidants, making them beneficial for the skin,” said Sabrina Nainggolan at FEB UGM, Monday (Nov. 18).
The innovation presented by these five young students earned them third place in the YES! X CSDU business pre-incubation program on Nov. 10, 2024, at the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center (GIK UGM).
They also received business funding of IDR 10,000,000.00 to help develop their venture in the future.
Azrah added that Kakolie Beauty was created through the YES! X CSDU business pre-incubation program. During the pre-incubation program, she and her team received mentoring and various training sessions, greatly assisting in business development.
“I’m very grateful to have participated in this program, as the training materials provided really helped us explore the world of entrepreneurship and start a business,” she explained.
