The Piyungan Integrated Waste Disposal Site is in Ngablak and Watu Gender Hamlets, Sitimulyo Village, Piyungan District, Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The site has been operating as a final disposal site since 1996 and receives increasing amounts of waste.
Despite that, educational activities for children in the surrounding area must continue to thrive. Education is one of the most essential factors in a nation’s progress.
In the vicinity of the Piyungan Waste Disposal Site, the LPDP UGM Bahagia conducts the Awardee Mengajar program as a dedication to improving education in Indonesia. The program is held every Sunday morning throughout the year 2023.
“The Awardee Mengajar program has received a warm response from the local community. This is evidenced by the number of parents who bring their children to learn together every Sunday morning, ranging from preschoolers to junior high school students,” said program coordinator Putri Anjary Widya Santie on Monday (12/6).
Putri stated that the Awardee Mengajar program is implemented with a different concept, using the fun learning method where children can learn while playing.
“The children’s enthusiasm is heightened because they learn enjoyably, making it more memorable and not boring,” she added.
Haqqi Hidayatullah, the head of LPDP UGM Bahagia, stated that the Awardee Mengajar program also emphasizes the concept of Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn), where students can learn anywhere and with anyone because every place is a school and everyone is a teacher.
“Teaching is our commitment to improving education in Indonesia. As LPDP scholarship recipients and part of UGM, it is our duty to dedicate ourselves to the country,” he said.
