Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) plans to establish a Professional Certification Institute (LSP). Under the auspices and responsibility of the Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, the institute aims to produce competent, honest graduates with strong integrity, enabling them to compete nationally and globally.
Dr. Sigit Priyanta, Secretary of the UGM Directorate of Education and Teaching, stated that establishing the LSP will enhance students’ competencies. UGM, a leading university in Indonesia, plays a crucial role in improving the country’s human resources quality.
“We want UGM’s LSP to be able to certify the competencies of students within the university,” said Dr. Sigit Priyanta in a statement to reporters on Wednesday (Jun. 12).
He mentioned that establishing the LSP is in the stage of applying for scheme verification to the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP). The team is working hard to prepare the required documents for the license application.
Dr. Setyawan Bekti Wibowo, Chair of UGM’s LSP, said that this certification institute also implements good organizational governance as a foundation for developing the professionalism of professional or competency certification programs.
Dr. Wibowo added that the competency certificate can be used as a requirement for obtaining specific jobs. A license from BNSP is required to carry out competency certification.
“Currently, UGM is preparing various documents needed to meet the LSP license application process requirements,” he said.
In the initial license application, Dr. Wibowo mentioned that UGM proposed three occupational certification schemes: Occupational Health and Safety Expert, Senior Heavy Equipment Hydraulic Mechanic, and Travel Consultant. However, in the future, all professions related to study programs at UGM will be proposed for licensing.
According to Dr. Wibowo, the proposal for the establishment has been submitted to BNSP, and the scheme verification has been conducted, awaiting results from BNSP. The target is to achieve the license output by 2024.
“We have also created assessment tools for each scheme, requiring a minimum of two competency assessors per scheme. Subsequently, a full license application will be made with complete administrative documents, management, schemes, and competency test locations, including test simulations,” explained Dr. Wibowo.
