Kagama Lari Untuk Berbagi is organizing the UGM Trail Run 2023, scheduled for October 1, 2023, in Kaliurang, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.
The UGM Trail Run is an annual event in conjunction with UGM’s anniversary celebration. The first edition took place in 2019 and was attended by 500 participants. This year, the target is to have 1,500 participants.
Head of the UGM Trail Run Committee and Kagama Lari untuk Berbagi, Nugroho Dewayanto, explained that this year’s event would be held at Karang Pramuka Field, Kaliurang. The event is open to the public and features four race categories: 5 Km, 10 Km, 21 Km, and the Kagama group category (10 Km).
“Unlike previous years when it was held in Wanagama Forest, this time it will take place in Kaliurang, offering a different running experience through the hills while enjoying the beauty of the southern slopes of Mount Merapi, the Kaliurang area, Kali Kuning, Kali Adem, and Bukit Turgo,” he said during on Wednesday (9/8).
Under the theme “Run Edu Care,” Nugroho mentioned that participants will not only be running but also have the opportunity to engage in charity activities to provide scholarships for UGM students.
“There will be a scholarship fundraising activity through UGM Trail Run, especially in the Kagama group category (10 Km),” he explained.
Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni Dr. Arie Sujito hopes this event will motivate the adoption of a healthy lifestyle in society. Additionally, it aims to raise environmental awareness and encourage community involvement through fundraising for UGM students in need.
“UGM has a significant mission to create a healthy campus by facilitating the involvement of its alumni in developing running activities as part of promoting a healthy lifestyle, environmental care, and a commitment to helping those in need through scholarships,” he stated.
He added that the collaboration between UGM and Kagama through the UGM Trail Run embodies these principles, aiming to build a healthy society, promote environmental awareness, and realize humanitarian aspirations.
