The annual UGM Trail Run by the KAGAMA Lari untuk Berbagi (KLUB) this year will take place in Kaliurang, Sleman, Yogyakarta, on October 1, 2023, as one of the celebratory events for the university’s 74th anniversary.
Set against the majestic backdrop of Mount Merapi, participants of the UGM Trail Run will be challenged to run through the natural beauty of the mountain slopes in the 5, 10, and 21 km categories.
As a traditional event, this year’s race targets 1,500 participants from alums and the general public, doubling the number from the 2022 race at Wanagama, Gunung Kidul.
UGM Trail Run Committee Chair and KAGAMA Lari untuk Berbagi Chair, Nugroho Dewayanto, explained that the change in location from Wanagama to Kaliurang was to accommodate more participants. The new site will also provide the participants with more challenging experiences.
“We hope this event can provide an unforgettable experience for the participants, and they will always look forward to and participate in our events regularly,” said Dewayanto.
Rector of UGM, Professor Ova Emilia, MD, advised that the theme ‘Run, Edu, Care’ presented in this year’s race is treated as a shared commitment to promote and maintain a healthy lifestyle and educate the public about environmental awareness and the spirit of giving back to others.
The rector hopes that UGM Trail Run can become an extraordinary momentum in promoting a healthy lifestyle and building awareness of environmental sustainability. The event also allows participants to interact in person, share experiences, and expand their social networks.
In the three distance categories, the committee will provide cash prizes for participants who achieve the best times in the general men’s and women’s categories and the master men’s and women’s categories.
Additionally, an alums-specific category was introduced this year. Registration for the 2023 UGM Trail Run starts on July 25, 2023, at https://ugmtrailrun.com/.
