Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and the University of Dundee in Scotland have embarked on a partnership in education and research. This partnership encompasses several activities, notably the initiation of a double-degree program for master’s students.
This collaboration was officially sealed on Thursday (Mar. 7) at the UGM Central Building with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and a cooperation agreement between the two universities.
“It is a privilege for UGM. We hope this program will enhance the learning environment at both institutions,” remarked Professor Wening Udasmoro, UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching.
The MoU underscores that the primary focus of collaboration between the universities is to delve into joint research and learning projects, facilitate student exchanges in research and learning programs, and promote teaching activities, research, and academic endeavors.
Professor Udasmoro highlighted Indonesia’s status as one of the countries with the richest biodiversity, making it an enticing hub for study and research, especially in the natural sciences domain.
He hoped this collaboration would facilitate increased student and researcher exchanges between the University of Dundee and UGM.
“We have much to share, and this exchange will greatly benefit students by exposing them to the unique offerings of different countries,” he added.
In his address, Professor Iain Gillespie, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee, lauded Indonesia’s and UGM’s potential. He emphasized that UGM is the perfect partner for the University of Dundee due to its commitment to creating a positive societal impact.
“We are not just seeking a top-tier university; rather, we are seeking a university that aligns with our values, one that is dedicated to improving the communities around us,” he elaborated.
Throughout the meeting, representatives from both institutions discussed various pertinent issues and potential collaborations that could be forged at the university and faculty levels.
He expressed optimism that this collaboration would benefit both universities and serve broader societal interests.
“Together, we can effect meaningful change in the world. This is our shared goal, and we look forward to progressing together,” he concluded.
