The Vice-Rectors of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conducted monitoring and evaluation (monev) of the Gadjah Mada New Student Initiatives and Orientation (PIONIR) 2025 across three faculties, Engineering (FT UGM), Animal Science (Animal Science UGM), and Cultural Sciences (FIB UGM), on Friday (Aug. 8).
The visiting delegation included Dr. Arie Sujito, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, and Professor Wening Udasmoro, Vice-Rector for Education and Teaching, accompanied by the respective deans of each faculty. During their visits, the team inspected facilities such as medical centers and dining areas, and personally greeted the new students (Gamada) participating in PIONIR.
“Cross-sector collaboration like this is vital. PIONIR plays a significant role in shaping student character from the beginning,” said Vice-Rector Sujito.
PIONIR Gadjah Mada 2025, held on Aug. 4-9, continued with an action plan on Aug. 10-15 and concluded on Aug. 16 under the theme “The Contribution of Young Gadjah Mada, Bright Indonesia’s Aspiration.”
The program involves 10,629 new students divided into 202 groups.
All activities are designed free from hazing or violence, in line with UGM’s commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
“We equip facilitators with methods to prevent physical, verbal, and emotional harm, ensuring a healthy ecosystem for new student development,” added Vice-Rector Udasmoro.
During the visit to FT UGM, the orientation focused on safety, health, environment, and integrity.
The monitoring team also reviewed supporting infrastructure such as walkways and study spaces to ensure student comfort and security.
FT UGM Dean, Professor Selo, noted that PIONIR is an opportunity for students to experience the dynamics of academic life firsthand.
“Students need to engage with how the campus operates and uphold the university’s mission from the start,” he said.
At Animal Science UGM, the delegation observed PIONIR participants and was served bottled milk produced by the faculty’s dairy cows.
Dr. Ahmad Romadhoni Surya Putra, Deputy Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, stated that the visit introduced the faculty’s strengths while fostering connections with the new cohort.
“We hope their initial experience here leaves a positive impression and motivates them to contribute throughout their time at UGM,” he expressed.
The final visit was to FIB UGM, where new students engaged enthusiastically in cross-disciplinary collaborations.
The lively and interactive session involved students sharing experiences with facilitators and committee members.
Professor Setiadi, Dean of FIB UGM, appreciates the cooperative spirit shown during PIONIR.
“We welcome students from other faculties to practice arts, gamelan, dance, and similar activities at FIB. We hope that this collaboration continues throughout the four years or until graduation,” he concluded.
