Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) warmly received the Rector of Padjadjaran University on its campus on Thursday (Feb. 2).
Professor Rina Indiastuti, the Rector of Padjadjaran University, expressed that their visit to UGM was to delve into the practices of ethics and morality upheld by lecturers, non-teaching staff, and students at UGM.
“We’ve previously had discussions via Zoom regarding the ethical standards upheld at UGM. This visit is an opportunity to delve deeper into these practices and gain further inspiration,” she elaborated.
Rector Indiastuti emphasized that they aimed to gain insights into how UGM enforces ethics, particularly concerning bullying, sexual harassment, and academic ethics violations. They sought to understand the objective and fair application of enforcement and sanctions in these instances.
“We hope that through these discussions, our university can benefit, and we can potentially adopt a model of ethics enforcement for our campus community,” Rector Indiastuti added.
During the discussion, Professor Sulistiowati, Chair of the UGM Academic Senate, shared UGM’s exemplary practices in upholding ethics and morality within the academic community. She highlighted the pivotal role of the University Ethics Council (DKU) in enforcing these standards.
“The DKU plays a crucial role in providing disciplinary recommendations following relevant laws and regulations, both governmental and UGM-specific. This ensures a legal framework for addressing ethics violations related to employee discipline,” she elucidated.
The event was graced by the presence of Professor Ova Emilia, the Rector of UGM, along with members of the Academic Senate, university leadership, and faculty leaders from within UGM.
