Innovative Academy, the innovation and technology-based startup incubator at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), was selected as one of the Startup Go Global program delegates who visited the Netherlands from May 27 to 31.
The Indonesian Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, led the delegation of representatives from various startup incubators across Indonesia.
Denny Wijayanto, Head of Programs at Innovative Academy, represented the UGM Science Techno Park during the visit. He stated that the delegation had the opportunity to conduct a comparative study and establish connections with the startup ecosystem in the Netherlands.
“We had the opportunity to meet with stakeholders in the startup ecosystem there,” said Wijayanto in a statement sent to reporters on Monday (Jun 10).
The visit, organized under the Startup Go Global program, was a collaboration between the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs and Programma Uitzending Managers (PUM), a Dutch incubator expert, which greatly facilitated the program.
The delegation included several startup incubators who exchanged experiences with Dutch startups, incubators, and funding institutions such as Fevenue, PUM The Netherlands, Halal Feed and Food Inspection Authority (HFFIA), BioPartner Center Leiden, Upstream, Golden Egg Check, Rabo Foundation, World Startup, Uluru Beagle, The Hague Humanity Hub, and The New Farm.
“We were able to meet directly with incubators, accelerators, startups, and private equity in The Hague, Rotterdam, and Utrecht,” said Wijayanto.
He mentioned that the visit provided new insights and knowledge about developing fundraising schemes through the government, banks, accountants, incubators, and private equity collaboration.
“During our time there, we openly shared information related to financial risk, multiyear funding for startups sourced from government funds, and establishing independent parameters for incubators and accelerators to determine eligible startups for funding,” he explained.
According to Wijayanto, the Startup Go Global program visit by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs was highly beneficial for UGM because it gave UGM new ideas for the future development of programs at the Innovative Academy.
