The Master of Business Administration Program at the UGM Faculty of Economics and Business celebrated its 35th-anniversary culmination on Sunday (2/7).
In this event, the program launched two books: “Mencetak Pemimpin Bisnis” (trans: Developing Business Leaders) and the 9th edition of Kasus Manajemen Perusahaan Indonesia (trans: Indonesian Corporate Management Cases) series titled “Business Beyond Boundaries: Internationalization Strategy, Processes, and Practices.”
The book launch was symbolically marked by the handover of the book covers by the MBA Chair at the Yogyakarta Campus, Professor Amin Wibowo, and the MBA Chair at the Jakarta Campus, Professor Tandelilin Eduardus, to the faculty’s dean, Professor Didi Achjari.
Professor Didi Achjari congratulated the MBA program on its 35th anniversary, stating that it has had a long journey to become a leading business school worldwide.
Currently, the program is ranked 40th in Asia and 201-250 globally in the 2023 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Global MBA Ranking. It is also ranked 72nd in the world for Entrepreneurship and Alumni Outcomes.
“I believe this anniversary marks the long journey of UGM’s MBA program. We want it to maintain its knowledge quality, develop business leaders, and nurture the future leader and sustainability. I believe our MBA program can be a pioneer,” he said.
Regarding international accreditation, Professor Achjari emphasized that his faculty has maintained prestigious accreditation as a business school in education, research, and community service.
“AACSB must be maintained,” he said.
With the changing technology and learning systems, the dean hopes that the program can become a pioneer in using new technology and pedagogical integration, where learning is not only limited to the classroom but based on case studies.
“We conduct learning not just in the classroom but also with case study approaches with offline and online implementations, adapting to the community’s and alumni’s needs,” he explained.
Professor Amin Wibowo mentioned that the program’s achievements are not separate from the contributions of the previous founders and managers of the program.
“As the program managers, we want to continue to excel nationally and internationally because this program serves as a reference for MBA programs throughout Indonesia. We want to achieve and fulfill the expectations of all stakeholders,” he stated.
He mentioned that the program has established collaborations with 42 MBA programs worldwide in Europe, America, Asia, and Southeast Asia. The number of partnerships has increased from the previous 38, with forms of joint degrees, dual degrees, and faculty and student exchanges.
“Of course, we are proud that the ASEAN Master in Sustainability Management program, resulting from collaboration with the Norwegian government and AUN-BE, has already graduated more than 20 students with dual degrees. It is now entering batch 2,” he explained.
Professor Tandelilin Eduardus added that the active number of students in the program is more than 2,000, with around 1,900 students at the Jakarta Campus and about 900 students at the Yogyakarta Campus.
“There are about 2,000 active students across the two campuses,” he clarified.
Every year, the Jakarta Campus accepts new prospective students divided into seven classes, six for working students and one for regular classes.
“For the six classes, we further divide them into two types: evening classes from Monday to Friday and weekend classes on Friday and Saturday,” he concluded.
