UGM shared information about its orientation program ‘PPSMB Pionir’ live through the #UGMUpdate on Friday (28/7), a couple of days before the program’s opening on July 31, 2023.
“Gamada (new students of UGM) will be provided with various learning materials, especially on how to become successful learners that think, speak, and act according to the principles of nonviolence, including against physical violence, mental violence, and online violence, academically and nonacademically,” said Dr. Wulan Tri Astuti, representing the Task Force of 2023 PPSMB Pionir.
With the theme “Pionir” (pioneer), Gamada is expected to be an initiator and a determinant of change in their surroundings. Soft skills training is essential to shape the character of being anti-violence and caring for the environment. This is especially crucial due to the prevalence of digital violence alongside the development of social media.
In addition to learning materials and soft skills, Gamada will be given a week to implement these materials in the community through an Action Plan. Through this program, Gamada is expected to interact directly with the community.
There are no assignments in this year’s PPSMB. The learning outcomes will be determined through various activities during the event.
“So, there are six learning outcomes in PPSMB: history, philosophy, written regulations, facilities and infrastructure that support their studies, the meaning of diversity, and the multicultural nature of UGM. This is one of the identities of UGM as a multinational university,” explained Dr. Astuti.
I Komang Restu Adi, a PPSMB Pionir committee, said his team had prepared interesting celebration concepts for Gamada, both on the field and in the classrooms. The ceremony will be unique and special for the new students.
He added that the entire series of events is designed to provide unique, engaging, progressive learning experiences that will foster an initiative and solution-oriented character in Gamada.
“A piece of advice for Gamada, please enjoy every moment of the PPSMB Pionir. This event is a gift to you for successfully becoming UGM students,” I Komang Restu Adi concluded.
