At the kjVI VDI ChemCar Competition, hosted in CityCube, Berlin, Germany, and sponsored by VDI Germany 2023, the UGM Reactics Chem-E-Car team came in second place.
Top teams worldwide competed in the event from September 17 to September 19, 2023.
The team achieved this remarkable feat with their environmentally friendly and energy-efficient chemically powered car, designed in March 2023.
The team was led by Muhammad Hasbi Aminudin (Department of Mechanical Engineering) and comprised four members: Armando Rizky Nugroho (Department of Computer Science and Electronics), Mikael Bagastama Jatinitiraga (Department of Chemical Engineering), Muhammad Akbar Ariffandi (Department of Chemical Engineering), and Muhammad Husein Hartanto (Department of Mechanical Engineering), along with team manager Novia Safitri (Department of Chemical Engineering).
Dr. Budhijanto, Addin Suwastono, Mokhammad Fajar Pradipta, and Dr. Robertus Dimas Dhewangga Putra mentored them.
Team leader Aminudin explained that his friends at Reactics had shown exceptional dedication and expertise in preparing and participating in this competition.
The Chem-E-Car competition challenged each team to accurately control their vehicles using chemical reactions.
After passing concept and safety selections in the competition, the Reactics had to present their ideas and answer questions about the car they created to pass the safety inspection before starting the race.
“After going through such a lengthy process, the team successfully formulated chemical reactions accurately to propel the car, achieving a travel distance close to the competition’s specifications,” he stated in a press release received on Monday (September 25).
Aminudin conveyed that his team gained many experiences by participating in this competition. They learned about the practical application of chemistry in technology and teamwork.
“The Chem-E-Car competition in CityCube, Berlin, was an unforgettable experience. We learned a lot about the practical application of chemistry in technology and how solid teamwork can achieve outstanding achievements,” he said.
This success is also attributed to the support of their mentor professors, faculty, university leaders, and partners such as PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia, PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk., and PT Sanggar Sarana Baja.
“Of course, this victory is not the last step for Reactics in exploring competitions at the national and international levels. This achievement is just the beginning for Reactics to continue achieving success nationally and internationally,” he concluded.
