The Gadjah Mada Theater Student Activity Unit (TGM UGM) will stage the plays “404” and “Begini Amat Cinte,” written by the TGM UGM team itself. The performances will occur on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta.
This event aims to preserve the theater’s cultural heritage and strengthen TGM UGM’s presence as an active theater organization.
In a statement to the press on Thursday (Oct. 24), Dorkas Pradhanika Gupita explained that the 2024 Theatrival performance seeks to introduce TGM UGM to a broader audience while presenting original works that enrich the art world.
“TGM UGM is an active theater organization. Besides aiming to entertain the audience, this performance also strives to convey moral messages through meaningful theatrical presentations,” said Gupita.
For the Nov. 2 performance at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta, they target an audience of 800 people, with ticket prices set at 55,000, 50,000, and 45,000 IDR. The first play, “404,” highlights the importance of trust in a relationship.
Filled with emotional tension, psychological games, and destructive choices, “404: Don’t Seek the Truth Here” is a story about how forcing the truth can destroy everything.
The second play, “Begini Amat Cinte,” deals with conflicts commonly found in society. This drama tells the love story of Amad, a music student from the Betawi ethnic group who lives with his mother, Tuti.
Meanwhile, Juleha, a mathematics student from Betawi, falls in love with Amad, but her parents disapprove of their relationship.
According to Gupita, this multi-arts performance of two plays combines music, visual arts, fine arts, and theatrical performance.
The program focuses on boundless creativity and invites students to explore various forms of art. It starts with internal events at UGM, where participants undergo an incubation process and pre-event performances in preparation for the main event.
