The theater and stage of Ramayana Ballet Prambanan were animated by the UGM Surakarta Style Javanese Arts Unit (UKJGS) performance, lasting for three days on August 8, 10, and 12.
The story of Ramayana was successfully presented with captivating and unique performances before the audience of tourists.
The Ramayana Ballet Prambanan stage is known for being a prestigious performance every dry season to attract local and foreign tourists.
The event, managed directly by PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) Prambanan, is usually enriched by art communities/studios from the Klaten region and the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Interestingly, UKJGS has become a regular participant for the past several years.
“Utmost appreciation for the spirit of the UKJGS members. Alhamdulillah, this performance brings a special spirit as it takes place at the end of our holiday season. So, this vacation has become more productive as we prepare for the performance,” stated Chair of UKJGS Hanung Abdul Muqiit.
Muqiit explained that his team was responsible for preparing the performance, including the conceptualization, stage setup, makeup, and costumes.
This occasion marks the highlight performance of UKJGS, as it can present the archipelago’s distinctive art to the local community and tourists.
“We want to introduce this famous legend, Ramayana, with an attractive and modern presentation. But of course, we maintain our signature Surakarta style. We hope this performance entertains and serves as a platform to introduce Indonesian art to international tourists,” said the chair.
He also feels honored to be able to present the cultural values and local wisdom of Indonesia through the Ramayana narrative.
UKJGS’s performance in the Ramayana Ballet Prambanan results from the synergy between active members of UKJGS, alums, mentors, trainers, the karawitan team, and professionals.
This support has motivated the performers to remain consistent in their practice, even at the cost of sacrificing their holiday time.
“When you think about it, the efforts of our members are extraordinary. While others are on vacation, some of us are busy practicing and practicing. Even our audience is mostly comprised of people on vacation. But no matter what, we continue to strive to deliver the best,” he stated.
This performance is a form of appreciation by UKJGS for Indonesia’s cultural heritage and preservation efforts. As time evolves, contemporary arts that are more modern and captivating emerge. However, UKJGS has proven that this generation has a crucial role in upholding the existence of the archipelago’s culture.
