Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has opened new student admissions through its Independent Selection path. Out of the total 9,236 new student quota for 2025, UGM is allocating 40% to this path.
“We will admit as many as 3,670 students through this route,” said Secretary of the Directorate of Education and Teaching, Dr. Sigit Priyanta, during the UGM Update: Explore Opportunities in the Independent Selection broadcast live on UGM’s YouTube and Instagram platforms on Thursday (May 15).
The Independent Selection path itself is further divided into several schemes: the Talent Scouting for Underprivileged Students (PBUTM), the Talent Scouting for Outstanding Students (PBUB), the Talent Scouting for Affirmative Action and 3T Areas, and the Independent Admission Computer-Based Test (UM UGM CBT).
Dr. Priyanta explained that the 40% quota would be distributed as follows: 10% for PBUTM and PBUB, 10–15% for the Affirmation Path, and the remainder would be filled through UM UGM CBT.
Registration for PBUB and UM UGM CBT has been open since May 6 and will close on June 10. The UM UGM CBT will be held in Yogyakarta from July 1 to 5 and 7, and in Jakarta from July 7 to 12.
Meanwhile, registration for the Affirmation Path closed on April 23. The results for all three paths will be announced on July 19.
Dr. Priyanta added that from the total 9,236 new student quota this year, UGM has already admitted 2,783 students through the academic excellence-based entrance selection (SNBP).
For the national entrance test (SNBT), which will be announced on May 28, UGM will admit another 2,783 students.
“Each of these routes receives a 30% share of the total quota,” he noted.
Regarding the required documents for the PBUTM and PBUB tracks, Dr. Priyanta stated that applicants must submit academic achievements through report card grades, supported by non-academic accomplishments such as certificates from science, sports, or arts competitions.
“Academic excellence is the primary consideration. This is then supported by evidence of competition achievements. The academic basis for selection will be the submitted report card grades. Those who pass the administrative screening will be invited to UGM for a skills assessment,” he explained.
Specifically for PBUB in science, sports, and arts fields, Secretary of the Directorate of Student Affairs, Dr. Hempri Suyatna, stated that each applicant must submit a portfolio video and relevant competition certificates.
The certificates should ideally be from national, regional, or international-level competitions.
“For international-level competitions, finalists’ certificates are acceptable, while at the national level, winners from first to third place qualify. At the provincial level, winners of first or second place, such as those recognized under PORDA, are eligible,” said Dr. Suyatna.
Dr. Suyatna also encouraged prospective students to seek complete information through UGM’s official website and social media platforms.
