Faculty of Biology UGM and Research and Development of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Medicine Center (B2P2TOOT) in Tawangmangu have strengthened collaboration in research of medicinal plants and traditional medicine.
This was released during UGM Biology team’s visit to B2P2TOOT on July 3, 2018. The team directed by Dr. Purnomo, M.S., along with the members, Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc., and Rury Eprilurahman, M.Sc., were greeted by Head of B2P2TOOT, Achmad Saiku, M.Sc.
Dr. Budi Setiadi Daryono, M.Agr.Sc., who is also Dean of Faculty of Biology UGM, stated the collaboration between the faculty and B2P2TOOT has been running for 20 years. It is carried out in the field of exploration and systematic studies of flora with potential as traditional medicine.
“We will continue improving the collaboration in identification, collection, taxonomy, and systematics, both conventionally and molecular biology approach. We will also increase herbarium collection sharing in the future,” said the Dean.
This collaboration, Budi said, is also an attempt to help Biology UGM in collecting data of flora and fauna which are potential as medicine or antiviral drugs. The Biovir Team successfully received funds of UGM Universities Excellent Research (PUPT) for a five-year research from 2018 to 2023.
