Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, met with Rector of UGM at UGM Main Office on Friday (9/3). He delivered plans for cooperation to be done between UGM and Indian universities and companies that are operating in Indonesia.
“Technology in India has grown rapidly and now they become one of the most advanced in the world in terms of communication technology. I hope we could discuss collaborations between UGM and Indian universities,” said Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng.
UGM Director for Partnership, Alumni, and International Affairs, Dr. Danang Sri Hadmoko, S.Si., M.Sc., said UGM had already signed a collaboration agreement with three institutions in India. He hoped there would be more lecturers and students from India to come to UGM, and UGM students to gain experience in India through student exchange or double degree programme.
Meanwhile, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D., added that partnership with the Indian companies was important to increase the capacities of UGM students as well as giving experience and knowledge on the industrial need.
“We need to establish relations with the industry and know the industrial need. If not, we will walk alone whilst not producing anything beneficial,” he said.
He further expressed his hopes for Indian companies in Indonesia to open apprenticeship opportunities for UGM students, which was welcomed by Ambassador Pradeep.
“We would be gladly willing to help. If necessary, we could talk to the company so they may accept UGM students for apprenticeship,” he said.
He further praised that Indonesia had already 4 unicorn startups in a relatively short time. This showed that Indonesia has great capacities and potential in digital sphere as well as being one of the main market in world technology companies. With such potential, he believed the more intense cooperation between the two countries and education institutions and industry would give mutual benefits.
